These are adult books filled with mythological creatures that live by a different code of morality. This author amazes me with her insight into human nature and couples it with animal behavior to make a world that is magical and dangerous.
I kept staying up to finish reading I kept staying up to finish reading it and I'm amazed! This book is one of a series of four, and is excellent. It is an amazing fairy tale adventure with a dark erotic twist! Lee Smith always manages to surprise me, coming up with great plots, twists and turns that intrigue and fascinate!
This is another fine example of this author's writing, provocative, well written, erotic, often dark and suspenseful to the last page. I honestly can't wait for R. Lee Smith's next work!
An extremely pregnant Taryn is playing international relation coordinator. Meaning she is off getting herself into trouble by trying to bring all the Lords of Arcadia together.
How can 1 one get herself into all this trouble? Read and find out! I just finished the book last night and my mind is still in the world this morning. I'm loving my book hangover. Arcadia is a character itself and keeps getting larger and larger with each book in the series. Just when I think I have this place figured out, it grows just a bit more. Arcadia's inhabitants are so rich and their stories are all grand and so well developed that I love finding out about their histories. I'm glad there are more books in the series because there is so much story left to tell.
It is complicated and freaky and utterly engrossing. If you like dynamic characters, twisty and lengthy plots then you have to keep going with these books. Liked this book like the previous ones before it but the amount of sex scenes are just a little too much at times as to detract from what is actually happening.
Will be buying the final book in the series but only because I want to know how it all turns out. I was slow to purchase this one because there were no reviews and R Lee Smith can take her books to some pretty dark places; I wanted to know what I was getting into. So if you're like me One is the arrival of Taryn's sister Rhiannon from Earth. A healthy portion of the book is narrated from Rhiannon's point of view. She's wounded, bitter, and deeply resentful of her sister's happiness. I was worried I wouldn't like her very much but, actually, she's the perfect antidote to Taryn's increasing saintliness.
The second major development is the one indicated by the book's title - Taryn wants to create roads to connect the various peoples of the Valley of Hoof and Horn and eventually expands her ambition to include all the realms of Arcadia, beginning with the Land of Tooth and Claw. Through Taryn's unique brand of diplomacy and her wedding to Antilles, we meet more cerosans, the satyrs, the sileni, harpies, and the lycans. Part of this has to do with Taryn's increasingly improbable ability to walk into a tense situation, wave a magic wand, and make everything better.
I wish we had more the Lord Dragon!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want more of the Aerie domain now please. I wish that Taryn had another better sibling that could hook up with the Lord Dragon- or something. As it is I'm not looking forward to reading more damned Rhiannon. I hope she shoots herself and Taryn has to cope with the grief and ends up saving the universe by overcoming said grief by sleeping with Quiabe. I want more Quiabe. Sex with gods-- give me more Smith!!!!
So I will swiftly purchase the last installment of this.. There is a climax building up and I can already tell there are too many tantalizing things that are going to be left unanswered. Jul 23, Karen Wine rated it it was amazing. I think this is my favorite in the series so far. I've become a huge R. Taking place soon after the death of the wizard, this book sets the stage for whatever final showdown takes place in The Army of Mab.
I thoroughly enjoyed the introduction of Taryn's little sister, Rhiannon, into the story. She's much darker and angrier than I think this is my favorite in the series so far. She's much darker and angrier than the Rhiannon Taryn left on Earth, and although her interactions with her new Arcadian friends and, indeed, with herself in her own head are often cringe-worthy, I always was glad to read her chapters.
It was refreshing to read a voice so different from Taryn's standard selfless often reckless optimism. The Roads of Taryn MacTavish also introduces Antilles's family, and I must admit, his brother Arion has accomplished what I thought impossible, and replaced Antilles as my favorite Cerosan. His interactions with Rhiannon are, for the most part, just witty-banter perfection. Lee Smith at her best. This book also introduces among others satyrs, fauns, sileni, harpies, the god Quaibe, and my favorite, besides the familiar Cerosan and Farasai, of course the Lycans of High Pack.
Mar 12, Naz rated it it was amazing. Satyrs, Sileni, Lycans and In-Laws I lost so much sleep to this book.. But I could barely put it down to go and live my everyday life I just want to stay in Arcadia with Taryn. The Lycans were truly scary in the beginning but after a while u get used to them just like all the other fantastical beings. And Antilles's Family are awesome except for his hateful bitch mom of course.
Rhiannon is heartbreaking and needs a good dose of Love, and I hope sh Well Shit! Rhiannon is heartbreaking and needs a good dose of Love, and I hope she gets to kick her dream-tormentors ass. I truly don't want this series to end. But now I'm on to the last book Apr 13, Mary Lee rated it liked it. My least favorite I wasn't a fan of this one. Mostly because half the book was from the sisters pov and that was one cesspool I didn't enjoy swimming in.
She's mean, spiteful, hateful, ugly and just a spoiled rotten brat. Her past in no way excuses her behavior to everyone that's good to her. The next book could start with announcing her death between books and I would be happy about it.
She doesn't deserved redemption. The fact that she has nightly nightmares and it doesn't concern anyone was ju My least favorite I wasn't a fan of this one. The fact that she has nightly nightmares and it doesn't concern anyone was just beyond stupid after Taryns past. Then Taryn deciding to act just like her spoiled rotten sister when she finds out humans origin was different than she thought was way out of character and just a deus ex machina plot that I thought this author was better than.
I expect it from weak authors, not this one. Hope the next ones better. What the fucking hell was that?!?! I had to slog through this book. Rhiannon is beyond annoying. Her inner conflict and wounding is tiresome and irrational like right out of the gate. I will say I was glad to see her get less page time as the story moved on. I have to finish this story but I am not happy about it. I am so annoyed at this point. The whole series needed a good editor. An entire book worth of trimming would have seriously made it better.
Jul 30, Cheryl rated it liked it. Good but could have been better. Character development and consistency is definitely lacking. Action has picked up. Almost a bit too much. But it has a nice pace. The quality of the series takes a major dip with this book, which is a real shame, because the world of Arcadia, and the many races that dwell within it, are truly fascinating.
Lee Smith has a gift for distinctive dialogue and vivid descriptions mixed with minute, almost mundane details that give her story real shape and weight. Her prose is easy to get caught up in, and that alone is what carried me through this long, long book. Unfortunately, The Roads of Taryn McTavish has major problems The quality of the series takes a major dip with this book, which is a real shame, because the world of Arcadia, and the many races that dwell within it, are truly fascinating.
Unfortunately, The Roads of Taryn McTavish has major problems with pacing, structure, and character development. The plot is repetitive and thus predictable: Taryn wants to do crazy thing that everyone says is a bad idea, Tonka and Antilles yell at her in a comical fashion, she does it anyway, and it turns out to be the right thing! Everyone sees the error of their ways, and she is welcomed back a hero! And somehow during the course of these repetitive plot cycles, Taryn stops feeling like a normal, struggling yet strong girl somehow regresses to an annoyingly naive and idealistic Mary Sue.
Rhiannon, her younger sister, is introduced in this book and becomes another POV character.
Perhaps in an attempt to balance Taryn's wide-eyed innocent act, Rhiannon is sharp and prickly and always picking fights. However, she's also whiny, immature and vastly irritating. I couldn't stand her most of the time, although her romance with Antilles's half-brother was sweet and fun and gives her a shot at redemption. The Roads of Taryn McTavish ends with a cliffhanger. At this point, three books and thousands of pages in, I'm going to keep reading to the bitter end. But this addition to the series was a major disappointment.
Jan 31, Ceeri Jay rated it it was amazing. The series takes an very werewolfish turn showing her survive then thrive weeks with the Dark River pack and the Na Tie her up. The series takes an very werewolfish turn showing her survive then thrive weeks with the Dark River pack and the Naga. A serpent like dying race. Too horrible to even think about here. Taryn is finally in time to give birth to her miracle child, thanks to the thwarted plans of the evil wizard by Antilles, Lord of the Valley who, realising the danger she faces, creates the impossible with her in order to save her life.
Taryn also jogs off to the Sheep people for safekeeping. That ps an interesting tale Another rollicking good read with even more strange smexy times as you could ever expect to see. Trigger warning for human trafficking abuse and abduction.
And not in that dark smexy way. And this is the first of what is now a 5 book series. Jul 27, Blue Bates rated it it was amazing Shelves: The love I have for this book haunts me. This book is really good sex. The Roads of Taryn MacTavish is long, and drawn out. Actually, it's a completely different book from Book 1 of the series. But a really good different. I'm not goi The love I have for this book haunts me. I'm not going to go into too much detail because I'm itching to get started on Book 4 but I must say Rhiannon was my baby in this book. Reading of her pain made my heart break again and again. I felt like Shappa just wanting to hold her and wipe away all of her pain. It was a beautiful contrast to the love and devotion that surrounds Taryn.
Taryn is the light, and Rhiannon the dark. My least favorite character is, and always will be, Antilles. Thankfully, he is in about 20 pages in the entire book. But I loved all of the other characters introduced in this book especially Kruin and his clan. Oct 16, Gayla Maypole rated it it was amazing. The third book of the series.

A healthy portion of the book is narrated from Rhiannon's point of view. I can't explain it, i really can't, but if she were real, I'd probably slap her senselessly and i. It started going down in quality. I have come to expect a lot of problems with self-published books:
